Abstract
This article discusses the United States' decision to take a pivot-to-Asia policy in the Asia-Pacific region during the Joe Biden Administration (2021-2022). In contrast to Trump, who is more "withdrawing" from intervening in the Asia-Pacific region and taking action/taking policies unilaterally with reference to 'America First'. Biden comes with a policy that is refocused, active and multilateral in securing US interests in the region. Using qualitative methods with literature study. This study aims to find out why the pivot-to-Asia policy was taken by Biden in dealing with China, compared to policies with Trump-like characteristics. From the research conducted, it was found that the reason why Biden took this policy was because the ruling decision makers (Democrats) were more inclined to a multilateral approach compared to Trump and the Republicans which were bilateral and unilateral. Thus, the common thread of the decision making is the decision makers holding executive and legislative power in the United States who influence party ideology and thinking in determining rational policies.
